Since 2009, the gaming experience has experienced a great revolution with the creation of the Microsoft Kinect Sensor. Before that, all gamers were only dreaming about playing video games without using a controller. The idea of using their body to control the games was only on movies. So, on November, 2010 the Kinect Sensor was launched in USA for Xbox 360. Imagine becoming a Jedi on the Star Wars game, being a F1 pilot or playing any sport like Tennis, Baseball or Bowling in your own TV room. That’s what Kinect owners were provided, a totally different and innovative experience.
Microsoft Kinect Sensor is an amazing package of software and hardware. Its hardware has suffered very few modifications since its launch, receiving many software updates during the last years. The hardware is composed of a sensor bar that deals with 3D depth sensors, an RGB camera, a mutli-array microphone used to do low cost motion capture the environment sounds and a motor pivot used when it’s self calibrating. With all these features, Kinect can be used not only to play games, but to control all the Xbox, like voice recognizing commands, taking a picture to log in to your Microsoft account, and many other features that are always being developed.
Since this revolutionary new product launch by Microsoft, many people are studying this sensor for applying the ideas on various fields. We can see its usage on simple to complex applications. People are using it for medical applications as 3D Scans, surgery information, augmented anatomical overlays, where people can see their bone structures by just standing over a screen and so many. People are also using this sensor for things like trying clothes by just looking on the screen, also things like changing a wall to a touch-screen environment, translations, and so many applications.
Companies are also starting to use Kinect to develop 3D animations, by just using a computer connected to a Kinect Sensor.
